In 1987 I chose to leave the world of being an orchestral musician and establish Zenchel Boarding Kennels and Cattery. I have bred, shown, trained, trialed and loved
Labrador Retrievers for over 30 years. The knowledge and experience I have gained over the years assists me in my aim to breed
Labradors that have the desired intelligent, keen and biddable temperament, are structurally sound and free of inherited diseases, and are of sufficient quality to do well under specialist breeder/judges. Extensive use is made of xray schemes, eye testing and DNA disease testing and profiling for pedigree assurance.
I am licensed to judge
Gundogs (Group 3) at Championship Show level. I take a keen interest in the optimal use of available tests for inherited diseases in all breeds, whilst maintaining correct type, temperament and genetic diversity. With this in mind, I am Chair of the Canine Health Subcommittee of Dogs Victoria.
Advances in reproductive technology allow the use of frozen semen from virtually any dog, anywhere. This has allowed me to capitalise on the virtues of several excellent bloodlines from the UK, US and Sweden, in combination with the outstanding type and temperament of my New Zealand import Drift, my English girl Clover and my original bloodlines based on Duffton and most importantly Waintree.
